ACTION LEARNING PODS
What is an action learning pod?
An action learning pod utilises lean learning principles to facilitate the long-term learning and development of a designated group of staff.
An action learning pod can evolve around a structured learning and development programme specifically designed for a particular group of staff.
Alternatively, an action learning pod can be organic and act as a platform for staff to facilitate learning amongst themselves.
How do structured learning pods work?
The learning pod commits to a scheduled learning and development programme developed from a learning needs analysis, with set learning outcomes.
The learning pod meets on a regular basis over a set period of time, such as, six to eighteen months.
At each learning pod session a single topic is explored with a focus on real would application of the learning content in the workplace environment.
How do organic action learning pods work?
Staff are offered an opportunity to voluntarily join a learning pod.
The learning pod commits to meeting on a regular basis, e.g. once a fortnight, once a month.
At learning pod sessions staff identify barriers and enablers to work performance and share ideas and strategies to overcome barriers and enhance enablers.
What are the benefits of action learning pods for staff?
Pod members can clearly see the connection between what they learn and how it applies in the workplace.
Pod members can take ownership of their own learning requirements.
Pod members will belong to a support network among peers.
